All About Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a beautiful country in Latin America that got the name “Latin Switzerland” thanks to its peaceful history and gorgeous countryside. The country has the lowest unemployment in the entire region. The locals proudly call themselves “Ticos”. This country is so much more than a beach resort. It offers amazing virgin rainforests, beautiful wildlife, volcanoes, thermal springs and more bird species than the entire North America. You should definitely add it to your list of must see countries.

Costa Rica is a Spanish speaking country and has a population of 4.5 million inhabitants. The official capital in San Jose and the majority of its citizens are catholic. The climate of this country is made from 2 main seasons: dry season (from December to April) and rainy season (from May to November). Pay attention when you book your hotel because there are different prices in these two seasons. The official currency of this country is the Costa Rican Colon.

This country borders the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Ocean and has two neighbours: Nicaragua and Panama. The landscape of this country is amazing, having more than 100 volcanoes from which 7 are still active. Cerro Chirripo is the highest mountain in the country and has the highest peak at 3820 meters.  This country hosts around 5% of the world’s total biodiversity even though it doesn’t cover even .05% of the surface of the planet. The country has more than 25% protected forests that are a magnet for every nature lover.

This country has an amazing fauna. It hosts more than 72 species of humming birds and countless other species of tropical animals like monkeys and bats. There are more than 750000 types of bugs and more than 20000 species of spiders. Also, 10% of the worlds butterflies live here. We can truly consider Costa Rica a tropical heaven.

Costa Ricans refer to themselves as “Ticos” if they are male and “Ticas” if they are female. Foreigners are called “Gringos” if they are male and “Gringas” if they are female. This country has the highest life expectancy in the Latin area. The average Costa Rican is expected to live 77 years.

The cuisine of this country is also amazing. Being a tropical country, mainly all the dishes are fresh and made from local products. The main elements in the daily diet are: rice, black beans, bread, chicken, meat, vegetables, salad and fruit. Rice and beans can be mixed together for breakfast and this dish is called Gallo Pinto. The country also produces a large amount of coffee, sugar cane and tropical fruit. The country also relies on tourism and fishing. The latest trend is Costa Rica is the ecotourism because this country wants to protect its fauna and flora.

Costa Rica can be defined as the peaceful tropical heaven. The country is very peaceful and has no standing army. The pollution is at minimum and local businesses are promoted in order to develop every region and city. This country is a paradise for tropical plants and animals.
